Why don´t we speak English?

Since I started teaching English up to now people have given so many different reasons for not speaking English:
·         I won´t need it to communicate with people since I´m not travelling to the U.K.
·         Let them learn Spanish to communicate with us.
·         Although I can´t understand English written and I usually read English books, speaking is very  difficult for me.
·         I´d really love to be able to speak English but it´s so difficult.

These are some of a never ending list of them which students used to or usually give teachers in class. Our answer is always the same:

Of course you can! Just try !

It has been really difficult, almost impossible, to think of someone I know who is not studying English by now. The only person I know that has never studied English is one of my four sisters, she decided not to, but believe me, I couldn´t find anyone else.

I´m teaching boys and girls that started learning English at the age of 3 or 4 when they were at the nursery school, and most of them still find it difficult to speak English.

There is no other language in the world which has ever been studied by so many people as English is. We have millions of sites to learn and practice English. How can one say English is so difficult when everything we find in the Internet, the music most of us listen to, the TV series we prefer, etc. are made in English?

It´s about time we have the bull by the horns!

For all this, I thought it would be a good idea to open a twitter account so that my students write in English. I hope they will get used to think in the language they are learning. Here you are the link:
